What it checks
- Page titleThe title is the headline of your search result and the label on the tab.
- Meta descriptionThe sentence under your search result. Without one, the engine picks a random line of the page.
- Social sharing tagsOpen Graph tags decide the title, text and image a shared link shows on WhatsApp, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- FaviconThe icon in the tab, the bookmark and beside the search result.
- Home screen iconA site saved to a phone's home screen without an icon gets a grey square.
Questions
Why is my link shared without an image?
The page has no og:image tag, or its image is too small or blocked. The preview shows exactly which tag is missing.
I fixed it but WhatsApp still shows the old preview.
Apps cache previews. Facebook has a Sharing Debugger to refresh it; WhatsApp refreshes on its own after a while, or when the link changes slightly.
What size should the image be?
1200×630 pixels works everywhere, under 300 KB so WhatsApp shows it.
